How do I set up two-factor authentication (2FA) using a QR code photo or file?
You can set up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) in the Authenticator App by using a saved screenshot or image of the QR code provided by the platform or service. This is useful if you’re setting up 2FA on an account with the same device where you’ve installed the Authenticator App.
Here’s how to do it using a QR code photo or file:
Go to your account settings:
Log in to the online service where you want to enable 2FA (such as Instagram, Facebook, or a crypto platform) and navigate to the Security or Account Settings section.Find the Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) option:
Look for the option to enable 2FA, which may also be labeled as Two-Step Verification (2SV) or Two-Step Authentication (2SA).Take a screenshot of the QR code:
When prompted, select Authenticator App. A QR code will appear on the screen.On your iPhone or iPad, take a screenshot of the QR code when it appears. Save it to your Photos or Files.
Add the QR code from a photo or file:
Open your Authenticator App.
Tap the + (plus) icon and select the Photo or File option.
Select the saved screenshot or file or file that contains the QR code. The app will automatically extract the setup information and link your account.
Tap Save.
Confirm the setup:
The Authenticator App will generate a code for you. Enter this code into the online service to confirm that 2FA is successfully set up.Save backup options:
