How do I back up and restore my accounts in the Authenticator App with iCloud?

With the Sync & Backup feature enabled, your 2FA accounts are end-to-end encrypted and securely stored in iCloud. This allows you to access and restore them on any device signed into the same iCloud account, which is especially useful when switching devices or reinstalling the app.

🔄 Enable Sync & Backup in a few simple steps

  1. Open the Authenticator App on your device.

  2. Go to Settings.

  3. Find the Sync & Backup section.

  4. Toggle the Sync & Backup feature on.

Once enabled, your accounts are securely end-to-end encrypted and backed up to your iCloud account.

☁️ Restore your accounts quickly from iCloud

ℹ️ Important: Make sure you’re signed into the same iCloud account where your backup was created.

  1. Install and open the Authenticator App on your device.

  2. On the start screen, select the Restore option.

  3. Choose the vault you want to restore.

  4. Enter your password (this confirms you’re the rightful owner).

  5. When prompted, turn on Sync & Backup again.

That’s it! Your saved 2FA codes will be securely restored from iCloud, and any new codes you create will be automatically backed up.
