How do I get the secret key for my online account?
When you turn on Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for an online account, the service will give you a secret key during the setup process.
Usually, the secret key is shown as a QR code or as a manual setup key (a string of numbers and letters). You can either:
Scan the QR code with your Authenticator App, or
Enter the key manually, or copy and paste, into the app if scanning isn’t possible.
You’ll find this key in your account’s Security Settings or Two-Factor Authentication section — the exact steps depend on the service (for example: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, crypto platforms, etc.).
Once the secret key is saved in your Authenticator App, the app will start generating the codes you’ll use when signing in!
